Co-Principal Investigator; Nigeria Country Lead

Obiageli Nnodu is Professor of Haematology and Blood Transfusion at the University of Abuja, Abuja Nigeria, and an Honorary Consultant Haematologist. She is the Director of the Centre of Excellence for Sickle Cell Disease Research and Training, University of Abuja (CESRTA). She is PI/MPI for the US National Institute of Health funded Sickle Pan African Research Consortium NigEria (SPARC-NEt) ACCELERATE and SPARC-TRAIN grants.

A UK Foreign Office Chevening Scholar, Professor Nnodu has carried out many multi-institutional research projects including a multilateral UK DFID DeLPHE Project. Her assessment of the level of implementation of the WHO AFRO Strategy in SCD in sub-Saharan Africa high-burden countries highlighted the need for increased global funding for SCD. She serves as an expert on in various technical committees on non-communicable diseases with the Nigeria government and on SCD with WHO AFRO.

Nnodu Chairs the largest SCD network in Africa (Sickle Cell Support Society of Nigeria), led the section on Screening and Prevention in the Lancet Haematology Commission on Sickle Cell Disease, is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Sciences and Special Adviser on Sickle Cell Disease to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Services, Nigeria.
